Channarayana Durga Trek

After a gap of one year, I enrolled for Channarayana Durga Trek with BTC. After much expectations, I was shortlisted and set to undertake the trek with the astounding team. So, we all met near the Majestic Metro Station and began our journey towards the destination on the trek day(07 Oct 2018).

It is an easy two hours journey with a quick stop for the breakfast. Variety of foods kept coming until we are satisfied which is followed by hot beverages. Introduction about ourselves to the team is not a simple affair. One has to introduce and also remember and recall all the names and details of the trekkers who have introduced before. Failing to do so, you will earn five push-ups for not remembering any person's detail. But, fret not, no matter how many push-ups you earn organizer DY is kind enough to reduce it to five push-ups.


We reached the village and prepared for our trek to the Channarayana Durga Fort. DY gave us a talk about the policies of BTC and do's and dont's during the trek. Tahir would lead the trek and Ramesh and DY were trailing during the trek. Smiling Sathya gave us a warm up session.

Soon after the warm up session, we started our ascend to the fort. It was around noon time, so the Sun was little harsh. We had to hydrate ourselves often and took short breaks during the course of the trek. Climbing the rocks were physically demanding but the team handled it well.

Throughout the trek, uttering 'mine' and 'fine' or drinking water using right hand and you can become healthy. Yes, push ups is mandatory if you indulge in such activities. So, it lead to a lot of interesting scenarios and memorable events.

While climbing, we found shades under the posts and trees where we sat briefly. We also had some snacks to energize ourselves. We also had some stopover for quick photo sessions.

Around 12.00 in the noon, we reached the top and found a nice place to rest. We had around half an hour to explore the surroundings. After that came an entertaining game from curious Naveen and Nivethitha. Then, we settled down for ping pong game. We had fun time and whoever faulted at the game, entertained us by singing song, dance performance, push ups and sit ups.

We had our potluck lunch with consisted of variety of rice, neer dosa, roti, snacks and sweets. It is an mindblowing experience to taste different kinds of foods after a trek. All these times, we had a dog sitting(mostly sleeping) nearby us. It didn't bother us when we were at the top of the hill. But, as soon as we started our descend it accompanied us till the base of the hill.

Sun was still scorching when we started our descend. Fortunately, we found a refuge near a water body and stayed there for a while. Even after a rest of one and half hours and filling lunch under shade, the descend was quite tough due to the sun. We tread carefully down the rocks with a few stops down the way.

We reached the base and concerned persons did push ups that were earned on the way down. Then, we all had some cool drinks and posed for group photos. Shortly after the photos, we all started our journey towards Bangalore. On the way back, we played numerous games in the tempo traveller. Just before reaching the destination, we gave our feedback on the trek. Few people from the team got down at their desired places on the way to Majestic Metro Station. Finally, around 6.30pm, the vehicle dropped us and we all parted ways after saying good-byes. I thank fellow teammates, organizers and BTC for this wonderful opportunity to explore Channarayana Durga.

Trek to Rayakottai Fort

I have applied to be a part of Rayakottai Fort trek and got shortlisted. Finally, the day has come. I am so excited because it is my first trek with Bangalore Trekking Club. Our organizers for this trek is Dinesh Gupta and Aravindh Jho. Reporting time in Majestic is at 6.45am, eighteen of us have assembled in the spot. We got the tickets and boarded a train to rayakottai station. For finding a perfect place to sit together, we changed from initially boarded compartment  to another one just to find out that it doesn't have enough place. Then, just one minute before the departure of the train we decided to head back to initially boarded compartment. We made a run to it and last person among us got into before the train sped up. We all found places to sit and reserved couple of seats for three people boarding at the Byappanahalli station. They too made it in time at the station and our count has come to twenty-one.

I came to know about the customary introduction that everyone has to give before the start of the trek. As we introduced ourselves, we have got the attention of other travelers in our compartment who really enjoyed watching us. It is almost two hour ride to the rayakottai station from majestic and it got over. We all got down at the station and finalized the good view for the group picture and got moving. We hired a couple of autos to reach the base of the hill and we were 21 people travelling in two autos. DG was literally foot-boarding in the auto and he has to get down in order to get the auto moving if it is little sloppy area.

Once we reached the base, we had a head count and DG and Aravind explained us the do’s and dont’s. Then we started climbing up the hill. We moved up slowly and steadily. Whenever there is a view, we introduced a generous break for photo session. We stopped for some time briefly at a temple located inside a cave on our way up. Some interested people also visited inside the temple. Again, we are en-route to the top of the hill. The sun was blazing hot on our way up and we took a cover under a destroyed mandap for snack break. Once, the break is over it is all the way up to the highest point in the hill. We reached the highest point and spent some good time over there. The town was beautiful from up there and we did take a group picture over there.

We started climbing down and found a perfect place for the lunch. And so it began the awesome part of the day, potluck lunch time. Friends have brought some awesome and yummy food and we got the taste of all of home-made food. It was followed by the entertainment hour, we played the ping-pong game, the game in which we will assume other person’s identity and have to say ping when that name is called by others. It was a fun game and the time ran away so quickly it almost became our trek-down time.

The trek-down is so swift, it ended very quickly. In no time we reached the base of the hill. We again took a head count and decided to walk to the bus station which is around 1.5-2 km from the hill. We decided to take bus while returning to the bangalore and after having cool-drinks we boarded the bus. DG bought us the steaming vadas and we had another round snacks in the bus. It took barely 45 minutes in bus to reach hosur.

Once we reach hosur, we took an another bus to bangalore. We had an feedback session inside the bus. This ride is quick as well, in another one hour we have reached silk board junction. Few of us got down in the silk board junctions and other people were to get down at market bus stop. From the silk board, I bid adieu to other trekkers and started to my room.

Overall it is an amazing trek that was enjoyed thoroughly for every moment and special kudos to DG and Aravindh for organizing this trek. And, that's the tale of 21 trekkers who braved the unyielding sun on a fine sunday.

Except looking like human all the others factors like religion, nationality, creed, and caste, and not to mention our minds tend to segregate us. What follows is the secret history of the human kind depicting their primitive behavior from the past.

Ancient days:

The world’s oldest occupation was hunting. Man killed a variety of animals for his food. At the same time, he was not so kind to other animals which he did not eat. Ancient man considered animals stronger than him to be his enemies and killed them. For instance, the extinction of mammoths (the biggest creature on land) happened right after he explored North America before 12,500 years.

Medieval days:

When man got civilized, he separated land into countries and after that he fought to defend his territories. The number of people who lost their lives in war all over the world beyond comprehension. Gengis khan alone, who conquered many parts of the world is supposed to be responsible for the death of 30 million people during his annexation.
Unlike ancient days, man (especially kings) started to hunt down animals for their pleasure. Hunting was considered to be prestigious. Some of the mughal emperors had gone a step forward from hunting by banning the hunting in certain dense areas of forest for a few months. In these months, the animals’ population tended to increase exponentially. Then, they lit fire at the one side of the forest and when the animals started running towards the opposite side, the king and his army were already there to gift them with death.
Similarly, once upon a time in America, there were about 300 million cattle migrating to other places when the climate changes. It was believed that, when such a herd crosses a train, it took roughly 3 to 4 days for the last cattle to cross the gauge and until that trains were halted. The scenario changed completely when a cruel guy shot cattle. Then people started to take up trips especially for shooting competition. The sale of guns and cartridges were at the peak. The income of railway increased by folds. The scene continued till there were no cattle to migrate.
Till 18th century, the largest commodity of sale is not silk or opium but it is humans themselves. They were brought from Africa and sold all over the world. Many thanks to those who fought for abolition of slavery. Ironically, the first ship that brought slaves from Africa was named “Jesus Christ”.

Nowadays:
Every day, we are losing 116 square miles of rain forests.
Every day, we are converting 72 square miles of cultivable lands into waste lands.
Every day, 40 -100 species are getting extinct (the saddest part is we was not even able to notice it).
Every day, World’s population is getting increased by 0.25 million.
Every day, 2700 tons of choloro flouro carbon(CFC) and 0.15 million tons of carbon-di-oxide are being released into atmosphere.
And as result of all this, the temperature on Earth goes up slightly each day and acidity of ocean water increases a little bit.

Man started rearing a variety of animals for his food. But, continues to kill animals like the tiger, lion, elephant, etc., for medicinal and ornamental purposes. For him, everything is edible. He consumes from small worms to gigantic whales; yet, major part of human population still starves for food. The prospect of hunger can induce a man to do anything. It is worth mentioning about fishing tuna, the fish with largest protein content. It usually travels beneath the dolphins. For catching tuna, he is even ready to kill dolphins, which are very friendly to human and approaches them by whistling when it sees their ships.

Finally, man violates the world charter of nature(1982) which states that Every form of life is unique, warranting respect regardless of its worth to man, and, to accord other organisms such recognition, man must be guided by a moral code of action (every organism in the world serves a purpose and it is not really created for his use).

The real fact is that, the animals which he can master or rear for slaughtering become domestic and the others go wild and dangerous. But, human beings are the most deadly organisms in the world.
No human can deny these facts mentioned and he can’t bring back even a single organism that is dead because of him or restore the changes made.
